Description

White marble seated Buddha figure with hands in the `Dharma-chakra' mudra the gesture of teaching, usually interpreted as: turning the Wheel of Law. The hands are held level with the heart, the thumbs and index fingers form circles) and legs crossed in the `padm-asana' or `vajr-asana' also known as the dhyana-asana, i.e., the well known lotus position. There are a number of variations of this attitude in which the feet are placed in different positions. This figure originated in and acquired in northern Burma and dates from the late 17th / early 18th century. Measures 23" tall x 15" wide and 8" deep.
