ETHIOPIAN CHRISTIAN CROSS
This hand made nickel processional hand cross is a symbol of triumph, protection and the representational legacy of Orthodox Coptic Christianity in the area. The hand-painted figures can be hidden by hinged doors which can also be left open to show various figures and stages of Jesus' life. His mother, the Virgin Mary, can be seen holding him as a child. Other windows show Jesus preaching to the faithful as well as angels gazing upon him. The bottom of the crosse are open in order to fit upon a staff. Ethiopia, Mid. 20th C. 16" high by 12.25" wide.
