Description

Singha is an apotropais figure from the mythology of the Batak people of North Sumatra, Indonesia.The singha represents a benevolent and protective power flound in ancient Indian and Hindu - Bhudist mythologies. It's been described with attributes of and as "part human, part water buffalo and part crocodile or lizard". It is variedly represented, but always ahs an elongated face, bulging eyes, well defined nose and beard.

This Singha lion figure was acquired in Thailand, dates from the early 20th century and measures 14" tall x 5" x 4.5"
