BRONZE TEMPLE GONG THAILAND
Hammered bronze Buddhist temple gong (one of the oldest musical instruments in the world) on intricately carved teak wood stand with a stylized gold painted lotus detail about nipple. These drums are played at most temple gatherings, ceremonies, processions and in homes, they are struck to ward off bad spirits. From Thailand, this one dates from the mid 20th century. The stand measures 60 inches tall x 39 inches wide. The gong is 22.5 inches in diameter x 5.75 inches thick.
