Description

It is small like the limepots, has very graceful curves, and a flaring dynamic shape comprising of a narrow base widening out to a large body and flat shoulder, yet the typical dark glaze and the sectional bands seperating and decorating each section of this perfume jar give it a solid, architectonic feel. The lid, which is missing from this piece would taper the shape at the top, giving it height and finishing it's resemblemce to a stupa. Perfume jars were probably used ceremonially and this might be found at an altar. Like most Khmer ceramics there is no foot on this jar, just a flat surface made by cutting the thrown shape with a cord at the base to release it from the throwing wheel.
