CHANCAY BURIAL DOLL WITH BABY
This is very likely a reproduction of a “Chancay” burial doll, fabricated in the 1960s or 1970s. The Chancay culture existed in the central coast valleys of Peru from 1000 to 1400 AD. The original burial dolls were found in the Chancay cemeteries years later. In fact, some of the fabric used in the making of these dolls is indeed taken from these graves. Newer fabric, “manta” (from the Spanish for shawl, or manto), was added to round out the doll’s figure.
