Quan Am Bodhisattva
Polychrome lacquered wood carved Quan Am Bodhisattva. Counterpart of the Chinese Kwan Yin or Guanyin, Japanese Kannon and Korean Guan-eum Buddhist deity and usually a female. Venerated by east Asian Buddhists as the goddess of compassion, mercy and the protector of children. This portrayal is holding a baby in arms. Vietnam, early 20th century, black and red lacquer with gold gilt detail and measures 28.5" tall x 14.5" wide x 14" deep.
